Released: 20 August 2008, Hong Kong, China

In an initiative targeted to nurture the technology leaders of tomorrow, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) is introducing from its member companies more than 130 career and student internship opportunities.

Student internship and career positions based in Hong Kong Science Park, the leading centre for science and technology development in Hong Kong and home to more than 200 technology companies, are now available for both local and overseas students and graduates in engineering, computer science and other disciplines including science, marketing, business administration and creative design etc. Aspiring talent can also find ample opportunities to embark on an exciting career in the fast-growing science and technology industries in Hong Kong and China.

The rapid development in the Park’s focused clusters is spurring HKSTP partner companies to actively recruit engineers or talent of all backgrounds, graduates and intern students. HK Science Park’s clusters of developments include integrated circuits and electronics; telecommunications and information technology; optoelectronics and precision engineering; biotechnology and life sciences and environmental protection and energy conservation.

Justin Jamali and Jason Tan, students of University of Michigan and University of Rochester in US have chosen HKSTP for their summer internship experiences. They respectively worked on business development and engineering areas of the corporation. “The internship experiences in Hong Kong are filled with challenges and learning opportunities which have helped me to build a good foundation for my future career. I am interested to explore more on Hong Kong and China developments”, said Justin.

Ms Amy Lee, a co-ordinator for the international internship programme at Simon Fraser University and one of the university partners of HKSTP, viewed the collaboration with HKSTP as valuable for their students. “Ninety-four percent of our graduates with internship experience can secure a job within three months after graduation compared to a year for those without internship experiences. Therefore we see the Science Park internship programme offering a substantial opportunity for students to gain industrial experiences particularly in HK.”

HKSTP fosters partnerships and collaboration between member companies and both local and overseas universities to create internship and graduate positions and recruit aspiring talent to fill these rewarding career opportunities. Annually, more than 150 university students work in internships of varying length at Science Park every year to prepare for their future career.

Hong Kong is firmly focused on playing a leading role as a major international centre of technology and innovation. Hong Kong Science Park plays an important part by leveraging Hong Kong’s convenient location to promote the development of the technology industry. Taking advantage of Hong Kong's world-leading logistical and communications infrastructure strengths, Hong Kong Science Park serves as a gateway to the fast-growing China market as well as a springboard for China-based firms to enter overseas markets.

The more than 200 companies at Science Park are now recruiting for student talent and staff positions for experienced engineers, fresh graduates and student internships. HKSTP welcome all interested career seekers or university students to visit https://talent.hkstp.org to view recruitment announcements and submit applications online.
