Fiat Powertrain Technologies (FPT) is holding the groundbreaking ceremony at Jiading District of Shanghai today. Jiading Government representative Ms. Fei Xiaomei; Vice President of Fiat Powertrain Technologies, Product Engineering, Mr. Paolo Ferrero; CEO of Fiat China, Mr. Douglas Schenk, and Mr. Giuseppe D’Agostino, Director China Engineering Operations, FPT, present the ceremony, and lay the first foundation stone together.
Investments for the creation of the Jiading R&D Centre will amount to approximately 22 million euros, equal to more than 200 million RMB. The new site will focus on research and development of engines, both gasoline and diesel, and transmissions, and it will be the leading R&D Center of FPT.
Activities in the Jiading R&D will start at the end of 2008. Once working at full capacity, the Centre will employ more than 100 people, among engineers and highly specialized technicians.
Ms. Fei Xiaomei warmly congratulated the groundbreaking ceremony and said, “it is our great honor to have Fiat Powertrain Technologies establish Shanghai R&D Centre in Jiading District. The government and the industrial zone in Jiading District will comprehensively deepen the service and offer the best support and coordination to promote the development of FPT research centre in Shanghai.”
Mr. Paolo Ferrero said, “the Centre represents a great challenge, as it allows the Company to support the outstanding growth capabilities of the Chinese environment, thanks to the excellence of FPT engineering expertise. China is a key market to FPT’s global strategy. The new site is a step ahead of FPT in covering all the relevant regions with dedicated R&D centres.
